Physics World November 2020
A century of change: 100 years of the Institute of Physics
When the Institute of Physics (IOP) was founded in 1920, it was to serve as a voice for the fledgling physics community in the UK. With growing demand for physicists in industry, academia and government, more and more people were realizing they could forge successful careers in physics. A century on, Susan Curtis examines how the IOP developed and what it has done to represent physicists’ professional concerns. This month we also welcome our new pool of contributing columnists – active and thought-provoking physicists who will bring a new perspective to a range of professional matters. Don’t miss either our celebration of ferroelectrics and explore what we can do to make air travel greener.
